Traditional Blessing for Girls

Girl's Traditional Blessing
I portrayed this blessing with the emerging rose symbolizing the beauty of a girl or young woman.
May the Lord inspire you to live in the tradition of
Sarah and Rebecca, Rachel and Leah, who carried
forward the life of our people.

Song of Songs: Arise my Love
My beloved spoke, and said
Rise up, my love, my fair one
And come away.
For now the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone.
The flowers appear on the earth,
The time of singing has come.
And the voice of the turtledove
Is heard in our land.
The fig tree puts forth her
green figs and the vines,
In blossom, give forth their fragrance.
Arise, my love, my fair one, and
Come away.

Song of Songs: From the Mountains
|
|
Song of Songs: from the Mountains
Until the day breaks and the shadows flee away
I will go my way to the mountain of myrhh,
And to the hill of fankincense.
O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,
In the secret places of the cliff,
Let me see your countenance, let me hear your voice,
For your voice is sweet, and your countenance is lovely.
Come with me from Lebanon,my love,
With me from Lebanon.
Look from the top of Senir and Hermon.
From the lions'dens,
From the mountains of the leopards.

Song of Songs: Set me as a Seal
Set me as a seal upon thy heart,
As a seal upon thine arm.
For love is as strong as death
Jealousy is as cruel as the grave
The flashes thereof are flashes of fire
A very flame of the Lord
Many waters cannot quench love
Neither can the flood drown it
If a man would give all the riches
Of his house in exchange for love
He would be utterly scorned.

(although the picture looks a bit small, it is the same size as the others!)
May your light shine with its own brilliance and
may it illuminate the lives of those around you forever.

V'ahavta: You shall love the Lord
This is part of the central prayer of Judaism, although Christians will most likely recognize the words as well.
The top portion is done in the Hebrew.
The center words are:
You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your mind,
with all your strength, with all your being.
Set these words, which I command you this day,
upon your heart. Teach them faithfully
to your children; speak of them in your home and on your way, when you lie down and when you rise up.
Bind them as a sign upon your hand,
Let them be a symbol before your eyesl,
Inscribe them on the doorposts of your house,
and on your gates.
